Theodoros G. Giannopoulos is Assistant Professor of Political History and Theory (Interdisciplinary Ap-proaches) and Academic Coordinator of the Master’s Programme “PNYX: Political History, Theory and Prac-tice” in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Open University of Cyprus. In the years 2018-2023 he has served as Adjunct Professor and Coordinator of the concentration Archaeology and Art of the Master’s Programme “Hellenic Studies” of the European University Cyprus. He graduated from the Department of History, Archaeology and History of Art of the University of Athens (2000) and received his PhD in Prehistory and Protohistory from the University of Heidelberg (2007). His Phd thesis entitled The Last Elite of the Mycenaean World: Achaea in the Mycenaean Age and the Phenomenon of Warrior Burials in the 12th-11th Century B.C. was published in 2008 in German (Dr. Rudolf Habelt, Bonn). Upon completion of the Phd he turned to a post-doctoral research, which resulted in the monograph „The Greeks: Whence and When?“: The Mainstream Scientific Responses and the Present State of Research on the First Beginning of the Greek Civilization (Crete University Press, Herakleion 2012, 2013 Award of the Greek Academy of Sciences). The book was very positively received by the scientific community, the broader readership and the Greek media. He has also translated in Greek the book Johnson, M. 2010. Archaeological Theory: An Introduction, 2nd edition, Wiley-Blackwell, Oxford (Crete University Press, Herakleion, 2018) and he was the editor of the interdisciplinary collective volume “The Mystery of Our Future”: Greece and Cyprus in the Third Century after the Greek Revolution of 1821 (Liberal Books, Athens, 2022). His research interests include the Aegean Bronze Age, the Indo-European problem and the reception of the past in modern Greece as well as aspects of epistemology, social anthropology and cultural identity of past and present societies.
